Who are we?

The Research Group in Automation and Intelligent Robotics (NAUTEC) aims to research and develop new computational techniques and algorithms for the analysis, modeling, and control of sensor and actuator networks, whether they are constituent parts of Automation Systems or grouped in Robotic Systems. Since its foundation in 2001, the group has been conducting research focused on new applications in education; the oil, gas, and energy industry; and coastal and oceanic ecosystems. Comprising a group of over 20 researchers (professors and technicians), 15 postgraduates (Ph.D. and Master's students), and 40 undergraduate students, the research group is involved in various projects with governmental institutions and companies, as well as participating in several international and national consortia and collaborations.

Based on these research activities, the NAUTEC group develops its actions around the following lines of research:

- Robotic systems, equipment, and devices;

- Machine learning;

- Sensor and actuator networks;

- High-performance computing;

- Real-time systems;

- Graphics.

Operating in three main areas of application:

- Intelligent Automation and Robotics in Industry (oil, gas, energy);

- Intelligent Automation and Robotics in Coastal and Oceanic Ecosystems;

- Intelligent Automation and Robotics in Education.
